Introduction

Computers and related technologies have a profound effect on every day life both inside and outside the classroom. People of all ages need to be aware of the opportunities and challenges that these technologies present.
Computer based technologies offer students and teachers the opportunities to access vast resources and the opportunities to explore new, exciting and powerful ways of teaching and learning.

Students at our school have access to SmartBoard technology with overhead projectors in most of the classrooms; at least one networked computer in every class; a fully equipped networked computer lab; 1 smaller networked lab; laptops & desk top machines; digital cameras; digital video cameras; Wacom tablets; black & white and colour printers; scanners; Robotics kits and a wide range of software to support & classroom teaching and learning.

Students are only allowed to access the Internet in the presence of a responsible adult.
Pupils have access to the Computer Lab during a 1 hour formal teaching session each week. They are also encouraged to use the Lab. at lunchtimes (Monday-Thursday) as well as being able to use classroom, mobile lab. and mini-lab. computers at their classroom teachers discretion.

Technology Usage
1.Introduction
Computer use is integrated into the curriculum at Copacabana P.S. The Internet is an electronic highway connecting millions of computers and computer users from all over the world. We have a direct connection to the Internet available for student use.

2. Management.
The benefits of using the Internet far exceed the disadvantages, however, students and families need to be made aware of the rights and responsibilities which come with the use of such a powerful tool. A combination of direct teacher supervision and the fostering of a responsible attitude in the students in partnership with parents/caregivers is the most effective form of management. Parents/caregivers of students from Years 1 to 6 will be sent an an Internet Access Agreement regarding Internet usage and responsibilities and asked to discuss the contents with their child before signing an Internet Access permission slip.
We are really proud of the responsible behaviours demonstrated by students at this school in both their sensible use of the Internet and in their care of the technology equiment provided for them.
3.Benefits.
Access to a wide variety of Educational resources including Libraries, Art Galleries, Museums.
Rapid and cost effective world wide communication

The ability to investigate and learn about other cultures.

Staff professional development through access to new curriculum materials.
Social and leisure use.

Increased Literacy skills ranging from basic reading skills to location and critical appraisal of information accessed.

4.Publishing Students Work on the Internet
Parents/Caregivers are required to sign a form which allows a student's work to be published on the Internet as part of the school website. Forms are available at the school office. Parents have the right to refuse or withdraw permission for their child's work to be published at any time.
Students full names are never published on the Internet
