RATIONALE:
Homework
allows for the development of children's self-discipline and the positive
interaction between children and their parents. Homework needs to be
aimed at the development of the whole child. Many activities enjoyed
by children such as music, dance and sport are seen as valuable activities
after school hours.
AIMS:
* To
consolidate teaching and learning programs by revision and practice.
* To research a topic related to class work.
* To extend and/or enrich teaching and learning programs stimulating
cultural and recreational pursuits, e.g. music, craft, writing, reading,
and hobbies.
· To enhance more effective communication between parents and
teachers.
· To establish and reinforce regular study and work habits.
OUTCOMES:
The creative, academic,
social and emotional needs of the child will be recognised.
The children will:
* Develop self-discipline skills.
* Share and discuss teaching and learning programs with parents.
* Revise and consolidate skills taught at school.
STRATEGIES:
* Each child is expected
to carry out, as a minimum, the extension activities set by a teacher
e.g. project research, daily revision and/or reading.
* The work is to be sighted by a parent. The teacher will mark the work,
but parental assistance and encouragement is very desirable.
* If set work is unable to be completed at home, a short note to the
teacher will suffice.
* Work may only be set 4 nights per week - Monday - Thursday.
· As a guide, the maximum time for set Homework each day is:
Kindergarten - 10 mins, Years 1 & 2 - 15mins, Years 3 & 4 -
20 mins, and Years 5 & 6 - 30 mins.
· Parents will
be informed regularly about homework expectations.
